Utah Coalition of La Raza

Development & Training Program for Leadership for for Chicano/Latino Youth

The “Faces and Voices of Chicano/Latino Leaders” project is a co-creation of the Utah Coalition of La Raza (UCLR) and the Center for Documentary Arts (CDA) and is intended to provide extensive leadership skill training for high-school age Chicano/Latino youth living in the greater Salt Lake City area. The project is expected to take from 12-18 months and will train about fifteen (15) young people to carry out a documentary project focused on Chicano/Latino leaders in Utah. Specifically, students will be trained to conduct oral history interviews and take documentary photographs of selected leaders with the goal of shaping this material into a traveling exhibit as well as related products such as a website and a publication. Students participating in the program attend Horzinte Instruction and Training Center, West High School, Highland High School, and
Cottonwood High School.
