ABOUT US: HONORING OUR STORIES
The Peoples of Utah is an ongoing process, a succession of emigrant waves, that began with the native hunters whose pictographs grace our canyon walls, continued with the saga of Mormon pioneers and continues today with the stories of people recently arrived from the Pacific Islands, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe.
If we are to genuinely understand the complex dynamic that has formed this state, if we are to better see and comprehend one another, then the stories of all our people need to be publicly recounted, explored, and celebrated.
Utahns have traditionally valued the stories of how their families and communities have gathered to this place to make a home. They have also expressed a desire that their neighbors and visitors see more fully and sympathetically who they are and what they value.
If this work of presenting our citizens is honestly realized, we believe a portrait of our state will emerge that is broad and deep enough to do justice to the hopes and experiences of all who live here, and to all those who will gather here in the years to come.
